My Mission 🚀
Realising the future of work.Â
I have a vision of the developed world. A world formed of complex societies, where people from all walks of life are able to thrive - where fulfilment is attainable for each individual.
I'm not talking about a perfect world - I don't believe in perfection as anything more than an ideal, something to continuously strive towards - I'm talking instead about a fulfilling world, where each person is able to occupy a steady state of purpose and meaning. I strongly believe that this state is the ultimate goal of existence, as it continuously justifies existence when you're in it. How does one access this state? Through work of course!
Let's address this concept. The main problem I find for most in accepting this statement is that "work" is just such a dirty word. "Work" has connotations of suffering and discontentment. For most, "work" is the thing you do instead of the thing you want to do. How can it possibly be the means to the ultimate end?Â
This is simply a problem of semantics. "Work" has a much broader definition. Really, "work" is simply the means to escape inertia. Anything that moves in any direction only does so through work - in both the physical sense of a mass moving through space and in the metaphysical sense of movement towards a goal. Without work, there would only be inertia. A static, unchanging world.Â
It follows then that if we are to escape inertia, we need work. But critically, this doesn't have to be a bad or painful thing. Work can be used to overthrow evil regimes. Work can be used to re-invent society at large. What my mission is all about is facilitating this type of movement, in directions aligned to the known (and sometimes unknown) desires of all individuals, through the provision of pertinent, meaningful "work" opportunities.
What does this mean in reality? There are a couple of facets to this, but broadly speaking, it's about connecting people and work together.Â
Firstly, in a sense of connecting people to work opportunities that best suit their current skills, ambitions and life goals. Many people just don't know that there are opportunities out there that would be a good fit for them, or what it is that they truly desire. I want to help with that. There's so much to do in this world, so many different agendas to pursue that there's a fit for every single person out there in furthering them.Â
Secondly, in a sense of equipping work opportunities with the means by which to become better aligned with individual's wants, needs and life goals, by changing the way work is done or could be done to provide greater flexibility, superior experiences and more opportunities to achieve fulfilment in positions.
By focusing on this connection, I seek to launder the dirt from work and turn it instead into the ultimate vehicle for fulfilment. Let's help build a better world for everyone, let's pursue an optimistic vision of the future - and let' realise the future of work, together!
My Brand & Capabilities
My brand is all about making it happen. I know what it takes to create something from nothing - but it's not just that. It's about creating the right something. The most fit-for-purpose something. It's about keeping your eye on the prize, constantly interrogating the chosen course, adjusting, course-correcting and then course-correcting again until you arrive at the ideal.
I like to think of it as having a "helicopter" view. This means being able to navigate your way seamlessly from the tiniest blade of grass at the bottom, to the very highest peak at the top of the mountain. More than that though, it's knowing which view you should be concerning yourself with in each and every moment. Often, it's even about realising that the mountain keeps going up through the clouds even when you think you've already made it to the top!
I also always try to create solutions from first principles. This provides not only intimate knowledge and understanding of the solution, but also ensures that it is complete and fully comprehensive. It truly is the right solution - provided you've analysed the problem accurately. Recognising the true root-cause is essential for developing the right solutions - and I will always work to ensure that the true problem has been identified before setting down a path to solution, often by simply asking "why?" (at least 5 times!).
When it comes to developing people, I aspire to act as a coach and mentor, rather than a manager. The future of work is all about building the means by which to unlock potential - and I take the same ethos for the individuals that I work with, always seeking to enable them to become better versions of themselves through our interactions.
I've been described as a "visionary" - as someone who can not only see into the future, but understands what it takes to realise it. I've been described as having a "rare talent" to "inspire, convince and motivate" towards effective action. I'm a born leader and am hugely compassionate and empathetic towards my colleagues and friends. My ambition is matched only by my humility and hunger to grow as a person, striving to live as a lifelong learner. I'm also somewhat of a unicorn, able to bridge the gap between technological and people-oriented thinking, possessed with unparalleled communication skills . I certainly feel that I'm ideally equipped to realise the future of work - and I fully intend to.
